What are the forces generated by earthquakes and other factors that affect building stability?
One thing that damages buildings in an earthquake are seismic waves. There are two main types of seismic waves. They are body waves and and surface waves. Body waves squeeze objects and move up and down. Surface waves cause more damage to buildings in an earthquake than body waves do. Surface waves cause objects to rise and fall. They also cause objects to sway back and forth. However, seismic waves rarely kill anyone. In an earthquake most people die from structures falling on them. Lives can be saved if the buildings are stronger and less likely to fall down.
Group Progress
This is our most recent diagram. Building a full pyramid would be too expensive because there are more corners to connect. Instead, our new plan is to make the first storey larger and the storeys above that a little smaller. But to save money storey two, three and four will all be the same size. We would still like to use the cross bracing technique in our design as well.

| Note: The building in the diagram goes off the page. The last storey should look like the second and third storey with a roof on top of it instead of another storey. |
Conclusion
One way we can improve our design is by using rubber stoppers for a base. Of course we would have to find a way to pay for the rubber stoppers. My next step as the CFO of our group is to sort out our priorities for our design, find a way to buy items for many different techniques, and update our diagram when I am done.
