One technique I used was adding an important character relationship into the story. I'm not sure if I nailed it but I think my writing improved a lot from that technique because I never used to add important character relationships into the stories I write. When I realised how important they were I added a character relationship into my story and I think it became a lot more meaningful than it was before.
