Reflection on Theme

What idea from the mentor text really STAYS WITH YOU the most?
The part that stays with me the most is the part when James looks at the deers eyes and sees life still in them. Although this is an different story, I think this part was important because it was a turning point for James. It was when he found out who he was and who he wanted to be. It was like the start to many new stories.

For a lesson about "theme," why did I give you "characters" to think about?
I think you gave us characters to think about because there can be a lot of conflict in relationships and themes could come from the problems two characters have together. In the short story Everything Will Be Okay by James Howe, James finds a sick kitten and he wants to keep it, but his father and his brothers tell him they are going to put it to sleep. One of the characters in the story is his mother. His mother was always supportive of him. While James' father and brothers were making fun of him for not eating the deer they had hunted earlier, his mother said that he didn't have to eat it. At the end of the story when he realised that he wanted to be the kind of person he wanted to be, it is important that his mother was there supporting him before he realised this. Otherwise James might have been pressured into doing something he didn't want to and there would be no theme of lesson learned.
